Landfill

We have two permitted landfills:

  1. Class III Landfill (municipal solid waste)
  2. Class II Landfill (construction, demolition, and land-clearing debris)
    • Waste tires, scrap metal, and white goods are also acceptable

Groundwater & Methane Gas Wells

There are 13 groundwater monitoring wells (additionally, some wells have been upgraded) and 14 methane gas wells on and around the perimeter of the landfill.

All wells are maintained by our engineering firm.

Operating Under Special Provisions

Currently, we are operating under special provisions (approved by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) - Consent Agreement).

Phase I closure of the Class III Landfill (municipal solid waste) of construction for closure has been completed, which has closed 11.9 acres of the landfill. Currently construction of Phase II has started and awaiting certification approval from DHEC.

Contracted Solid Waste Services

Williamsburg County has a contract with waste management for solid waste services with:

  • Oakridge Landfill, Dorchester, SC
  • Sumter Transfer Station, Sumter, SC
